Holiday Fun

Wednesday we got hit with not one but two low pressure systems hanging over the midwest. This meant I ached. I wanted to stay in bed, take prescription pain relievers and sleep it off.

Instead, I took a mild anti-immflammitory and went grocery shopping. After hitting Kroger, BigLots, and the library, Mr. Sg took me to Sam's Club where we finished our grocery shopping for the month. Since I was a good girl, didn't bitch or use the Avada kedavra on anyone, he bought me a frozen coke and a soft pretzel. Yes, somedays, I am easy to please.

We got home, put things away and I cleaned the four <s>footballs</s> sweet potatoes into the oven. While they were baking, hubby made Chinese Carry Out for Supper. (He's so good to me) Eventually the potatoes were ready to be peeled, cut into sections, mashed then whipped with some yogurt and pumpkin pie spice then placed in a <s>casserole</s> 9 x 13 baking pan and sprinkled with granola. This was baked for about an hour, allowed to cool then placed in the fridge for the next day.

sweet potato crunch scroll down a bit.

After church, fledermaushund and I came home, got the hubby and daughter and we were off to my parents' home for our annual feast. Loads of good food. Mom does not eat candied yams, ate the sweet potatoes and liked them! *tosses confettie*

My SIL and I were doing clean up. I was washing the dishes, she was drying them when we had a visitor in the back yard. SIL softly squee'd and grabbed my arm. A Cooper's hawk had landed on the ground was was strolling about watching us work in the kitchen.

unexpected guest

My mother and brother are avid photographers. They both stood at the back door watching while this bird strutted around the yard. Brother eventually picks up the camera and says: "The viewfinder is empty".
*head/desk* Yup, dingdong didn't take the lense cap off. By the time Mr. Sg got out our el-cheapo camera and got near a window, the bird was done laughing it's ass off at the humans and began to fly away. To add insult to this episode, he curved close to the house, out over the maximum part of the yard then flew out of sight.

I'm in the Mood for Snark

Last week, I mentioned how the maternal unit's doc likes to <s>spin the wheel and come up with scary shit to pay off his condo</s> had diagnosed Mom as having major scary illnesses. This has happened each holiday season for the last three years.

Recently, some kind soul who I am sure meant well emailed me a link to a medical article. This was the type of thing written in highly detailed language and will hopefully in the future either be refuted or be dumbed down so the lay person can understand it better.
The way I interpreted it (remember, I put sexy in dyslexic) was that fibro is related to multiple scro - M.S.
I tried to read this thing in a brighter light. Couldn't manage it. Now, I am wanting to send a reply email to the <s>alarmist jerk</s> person who thought they were being nice.

What do you think of this:

Thank you so much for that little ray of sunshine. Would you care to pee on my Post Toasties to make my day complete? Just in case you missed the memo, Sg is a depressive along with having fibro. This lovely article has set me to thinking all sorts of lovely thoughts more appropriate to a chainsaw massacre than to the holiday season.
In conclusion, I really hope you drop a frozen turkey on your foot, get backed over by a semi and that a 50 pound buzzard takes a dump on your head.

So, is this too snarky?

Gotta share one happy link check this out I think unbroken_halo and I need this tote bag.

In the meantime, I'm going to curl up somewhere and wait for unsuspecting feet to <s>lick</s> nibble on. Anyone want their toes chewed?

NaNoWriMo Attempt

Pairing:Remus/Severus
Warnings: slash, bottom Snape, mention of character death, child abuse/chan mentioned, voyeurism, wip
rating NC-17
Word count: 3800 +/-
Summary: The months following Voldemort's disappearance are a time of adjustment for Severus and Remus.
A/N: this segment was inspired by various posts about alternate lifestyles. I am exploring some of these in the course of this fic.

Severus Snape sighed and tossed the book on the table next to his chair. Reading Muggle horror stories were not helping to improve his mood. He did not want to delve into the world of Mad Morgan, the Cross Dressing Wizard . If he was perfectly honest with himself, he outgrew the cross dressing marvel’s misadventures while still a student at Hogwarts.

He stood up and walked back to the kitchen. The main reason he was at the house on Spinner’s End was potions work. Severus did not like to have his brewing at home, and home was a nice cottage he shared with Remus Lupin. Checking on his current project, he added an ingredient, stirred the mixture twice clockwise and three times counter clockwise. It turned a satisfying shade of blue.

Not much longer. He mused while setting out bottles to contain today’s efforts. The healing draught was going to be sold at a little profit. However, any income was good. It meant independence from his former guardian.

There was a knock at the front door. Severus ignored it and continued to work. Less than a week ago, he would have gone to see who was there. Now that the Dark Lord had vanished, he knew no one important would be looking for him.

The back door swung open and several Aurors entered his home.

“Wand on the counter and hands up where we can see them,” Moody barked out.

Fighting was not an option. Severus had agreed with Remus to not struggle should he ever be taken into custody for being a Death Eater. He quietly obeyed the order and stepped back from the counter.

“I wish for Headmaster Dumbledore to be informed of your being here.”

“Your wishes do not matter. You have been turned in as a Death Eater.”

“Have him show us his forearm.” The speaker was a young man, one who once offered to help Severus when they were students.

“Sorry to disappoint you, Shacklebolt, Malfoy made certain I became one as soon as I returned from my studies in France.” Severus allowed himself to be restrained. He fought to stay calm. “If someone would extinguish the flame under the cauldron. I see no need to blow up my home and the neighbors.”

He was ordered to be silent while being hauled out the back door. His last sight of his kitchen was of Shacklebolt taking care of the potion. It did not surprise him to be hauled off to Azkaban. Severus knew it was only a matter of time. The Fidelius on the cottage expired with Lily. By being arrested here, he had a hope for Remus being safe.

~~

The cell was small, and damp. His only window was high up on one of the walls and gave a view of feet. Severus shivered in a corner. He really disliked being confined. Hours of therapy after being abused as a child were being undone each second Severus spent near the Dementors.

The one interruption to the monotony was when Rab and Ro were hauled in with Bellatrix. Her shrill cackles and the brothers’ protests fell on deaf ears. Severus wondered how the trio managed to be caught. He had been certain the Lestrange brothers had a contingency plan.

“Up, you.”

Rubbing at his arms, Severus tried to warm himself as he stood.

“Time for you to see the Wizengamot.” This announcement was accompanied by a wash of magic to delouse him.

Severus felt grateful to no longer be a buffet for the insects. He hoped he would be sentenced to either a quick death or even the Dementor’s kiss. The confinement was horrid, the food worse and Severus really wished to be free of his memories.

Four Aurors escorted him to London by way of a portkey. They had chained him before they left the prison. He felt himself shutting down with each clink of the metal. One of his escort shoved him to get him moving to an elevator once they arrived at the Ministry of Magic. They descended in silence and remained quiet while walking down corridors and stairs to the main courtroom.

There was a chair in the center of the floor. He was seated and more chains wrapped around him. Severus’ vision narrowed. Voices spoke, some were heated. It was impossible to respond to questions. He was guilty. Certainly, he had no choice in joining the Death Eaters, however, he did help in some very heinous crimes.

“Come with me, My Boy.”

The chains fell off, and gentle hands helped him to rise.

“Albus, a leopard does not change its spots.”

“For the last time, Alastor, he was a spy. He gave us valuable information at great risk to his life.”

Severus numbly recalled his deal with Dumbledore. He also had vague recollection of the man calling him pathetic. It was a challenge to walk with the older man. For some reason, Severus’ legs did not want to cooperate.

“I’m sorry. I forgot you’ve not had much room to move recently.”

Their pace slowed to accommodate Severus’ short steps. He wondered how long it would take for the Dementors’ influence to wear off. A side along Apparation showed how bad Severus felt. His nearly empty stomach rebelled and he sicked up on a large wall.

“Not much further, would you like Hagrid to carry you?”

“N-no.” Severus thought being carried just might make him more ill. He began to violently shiver in the cold air.

A warming charm was placed on him. This was followed by Dumbledore helping Severus to walk through the snow covered grounds leading up to Hogwarts. The entrance was mercifully empty of students. Both men staggered upstairs. It seemed like the longest journey to the hospital wing.

“What is this?” Poppy Pomfrey rushed over to greet them.

“Young Severus needs to be admitted as a patient. He is joining the staff here.”

Severus wanted to either laugh or cry or both. This was the last thing he wanted out of life. When the Dark Lord ordered him to apply for the DADA instructor post, Severus had protested. He’d also made an attempt for the position after the Cruciatus had been used on him.

“I was not aware of any professors leaving us.” Pomfrey commented. She led them to a smaller room. It was lined with beds, all of which were empty.

“Horace has been wanting to retire. Young Severus will be taking over for him.”

“The NEWT level students were here with me.” Severus mumbled.

“You will be teaching the lower levels for the rest of this year and next year. Horace will instruct the NEWT level potions students.” Dumbledore made it sound perfectly logical.

This was the trouble with the Headmaster. He could make anything sound logical. Severus shivered convulsively as he was helped out of his filthy clothing and into clean pyjamas. He curled up on a bed and moaned.

“He needs chocolate.” Dumbledore said while covering the newest staff member with blankets.

“He is allergic to chocolate.” Pomfrey announced. “Where is his husband?”

“Husband? Our laws do not support same gender marriage.” Dumbledore sounded bemused.

Serves the old fool right for hiring me like this. Severus pulled the blankets over his head.

“He has been as good as married for years now.”

“Oh? Oh. Mr. Lestrange is a guest of the Dementors.”

“I do not need my Dom, I need my mate. Remus Lupin is not in prison, is he?” Severus did not bother to look at the others. He saw no reason to explain the complex arrangements that kept him safe and sane.

He heard footsteps followed by a hushed conversation. The doors opened and closed, then Severus was alone with his memories.

~~~
A calloused hand caressed his body while a rough voice instructed him. Severus knelt in front of ‘Uncle Micky’ and looked up.
“Tha’s a good lad. Now you take it in your mouth and suck.”
“I don’t think it will all fit, Sir.”
“Never you mind that, I’ll help you along.”
Severus came awake with a start. He gasped and flailed at the blankets, trying to escape from the pedophile who made a play toy out of him.
“Shh, Love, I’m here.” The edge of the bed shifted as Remus sat next to him.
Severus eagerly curled up against his husband. “They are back.”
“I know. It’s to be expected after a month in prison.”
“Has it been that long?”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Remus stroked Severus’ back. “Are the other memories as strong?”
“Yes.” He shuddered. “At least the worst one is safely locked up in your vault at Gringotts.”
“Will you be needing to see a Mind Healer?”
Severus considered for a moment. “No, I think if you can stay with me, I will be fine.”
“There’s a problem with that. Hogwarts does not have quarters for married instructors. I’ve spoken with Mc- with Minerva and she said usually staff has a few weeks at the holidays to visit family and another six weeks in the summer.”
“Small wonder they get so tetchy by the end of year.” Severus curled his fingers, gripping Remus’ lapel. “I need you.”
“I’m here.”
“However, they will not let you stay.”
“True, and you are not allowed to leave while school is in session.”
“Excuse me?”
“The conditions of your parole are very strict. You are to live here in Dumbledore’s custody from the last week of August until the first week of July.”
“Fuck.” Severus allowed his full working class accent to come out with this one word.
“Well, not much chance of that happening.” Remus tried to joke.
“I was not making a request, Dunderhead.”
Remus kissed him in reply. Severus felt some of the ice in his veins melt. Right now, what sounded best was to have his legs over Remus’ shoulders and the other man’s cock up his arse. He raised an eyebrow when Remus stood up.
“Shh, I’m going to lock the door and put up some silencing spells and wards. I need to feel you under me.”
This was the main reason Severus loved Remus. The other man always seemed to know exactly what he needed when he needed it most.
They did not waste time. Both men stripped nude and were soon lying on the bed snogging. Severus whimpered and moaned when he felt his arse being cupped.
“Hard, need it hard and fast.”
“This time. Next time will be slow.” Remus agreed before casting the charms to clean, stretch and lubricate his lover.
“Oh, yes!” Severus cried out when he felt Remus’ cock teasing at his pucker. “Shove it in.”
“Patience, I don’t want to tear you.” Remus snogged him as a way to silence further protests. He eased in Severus’ tight heat and held still. “Want to watch you wank.” He whispered.
Severus nodded his head and reached down to fondle his cock and balls. He bit his lip then cried out as Remus began to move. The room was soon filled with the sounds of flesh meeting flesh and Severus’ caterwauls of pleasure.
Remus plunged in deep and held still. He groaned as he came. Severus’ body clenched around him and Remus sighed at the sight of Severus ejaculating.
“So beautiful.”
Severus offered his come splattered hand to Remus. He purred as his lover licked it clean. A cough made both men hold still.
“I agree the two of you together is quite beautiful to behold.” Dumbledore was leaning against the closed door.
Remus watched Severus pull a pillow over his head. There was a muttered expletive from under this covering. He eased off of Severus and tugged the sheet over them before placing a protective arm across Severus’ chest.
“As you both are aware, our laws do not recognize same sex marriage. Discretion is the watchword for those who do not follow what is considered the norm. I recall you, Severus had an even less conventional arrangement with Mr. Lestrange. One hopes the two of you have not made a habit of such behavior.” Dumbledore moved closer to the bed while speaking.
“Rabastan and I had a contractual agreement in which he helped me to remain grounded after a rather traumatic event. Remus and I have no such arrangement. We said more conventional vows in front of witnesses.” Severus moved the pillow but did not attempt to sit up.
“Who were these witnesses?” He sat on a chair at the foot of a neighboring bed.
Remus continued to hold his protective position. “James and Lily were there when we spoke our vows. The contract is in my vault at Gringotts, with a copy in theirs.”
Dumbledore nodded. “Good, very good. The board of governors have a strict code of morals for the staff at Hogwarts to follow. What we do on our own time, in the privacy of our homes is our business. However, when on school grounds, we are expected to lead by example. I have made arrangements for a conjugal visit during the winter holidays. Unfortunately, with your being recently paroled, Severus, I cannot allow you to leave the school grounds until July.”
“Will I be watched during the summer hols?”
“Most assuredly you will. I shall recommend young Mr. Shacklebolt be assigned to you. He seemed to be sympathetic to you during his final year at Hogwarts.”
That was one way of looking at it. The former Headboy had become almost protective once he learned Severus had been abused, was mental and under the close care of Rabastan Lestrange. It had made for an interesting sixth year for Severus.
“I take it, his belongings need to be brought here.” Remus finally spoke up.
“Yes, that would be most helpful and it will also give you a sound reason to visit repeatedly this winter. After all, potions ingredients need to be handled with extreme care.” Dumbledore stood up and swept out of the room.
“How long do you think we watched us?”
“Too long,” Severus grumbled.
“I never took him to be a pouf.”
“What are you on about Wolf?”
“Severus, he said we were beautiful together. Only another homosexual would find what we were doing to be beautiful.”
“How close is it to the full moon?” Severus narrowed his eyes, making Remus chuckle.
“Not that close. However in answer to your unspoken question, yes, I could smell his arousal.”
Severus groaned. “Once, I though my life was surreal because a wolf wanted to shag me. Now, I am terrified that my supervisor wants to-” He broke off. Some things were better left unsaid.
~~
They entered a chamber that had curved walls. Severus paced the confines of the room before opening a door and entering the attached living quarters. He eyed the fireplace with a thought to how much of the sitting room could be seen from it. Far too much for comfort unless one were an exhibitionist.
“Well, my boy, what do you think of your new home?” Dumbledore stood in the doorway to the office.
“They seem to be adequate. Am I allowed to decorate them as I see fit?” Severus looked in the bed room. He thought a light coat of paint might improve the lighting in there.
“You are allowed to personalize these rooms. This will be your home.”
“My prison.”
“Your home.” Dumbledore firmly corrected him.
“Yes, fine, home sweet home. I need shelving in the front office. All of the walls need to have floor to ceiling shelves. This main sitting area needs a desk, here. There should be a settee and two chairs, with a dining area, there.” Severus moved about the room, pointing to where he wanted furniture placed. He ignored the House-elves that were nodding their heads and squeaking in agreement.
“NO portraits in these quarters. None in the sleeping area or the office. I cannot be disturbed while I am working.”
“Of course, Severus.”
He was not certain which felt worse, being called son, referred to as a boy, or hearing his given name coming out of Dumbledore’s mouth. Severus hugged himself. He wished Remus were with him. At present, his lover was home, packing clothing to bring to the school. Severus’ brewing equipment was locked up by the Aurors when they had raided his home on Spinner’s End. It would all be replaced by the school…then again, the school would own everything he used to make potions while employed here.
“I want a large bed.” Severus wondered how far he could push things. What demands would not be met by the board of governors?
“Please, Mr. Severus, how large a bed is you wanting?”
He looked down at the speaker and considered. Ignoring Dumbledore, he knelt down and conjured an image of a very decadent bed he and Remus recently admired. It was in a catalog from North America.
The elves made interested sounds and eventually agreed they could Transfigure an existing bed into this form. One of the little creatures snapped its fingers and the bedroom walls were a pale grey, almost white colour.
Severus nodded his head in approval. “Green rugs, and the furniture needs to have a mahogany finish. He glanced over at Dumbledore and was mildly surprised to not be corrected. It felt odd to have this much say over his surroundings when he was being punished.
“Severus, it is not my place to approve of or disapprove of your choices. You have the final say in how your quarters will be decorated.” Dumbledore’s voice held a weary note.
Severus wondered what he’d done wrong and fought back the urge to kneel. His hands shook. He looked at the floor and shifted his weight from one foot to the other. Rabastan had been a big help at making decisions and Severus was not sure of himself. He looked up.
“I think I will make the rest of my choices after Remus returns with my things.”
“Very well. You are expected to take at least one meal a day in the Great Hall.” With this reminder, Dumbledore left the suite of rooms.
Severus felt a tug on his robes and looked down.
“Please to be saying if the bed is the right style.” A House-elf quietly requested of him.
Severus looked into the bedroom and almost smiled. It was big enough for four, and on a pedestal which had drawers. The headboard was a book case and the covers looked decadently soft.
“That is fine. Make up matching bedside tables, and a wardrobe to match the set.” He went back into the office after giving this order. At present, this room held the only chair.
~~
Remus brought Severus’ belongings to the castle over the course of a few weeks. Each visit included a bit of sex and some cuddling. Severus found himself half starved for his lover’s touch in a very brief amount of time. He wondered if this had anything to do with the exposure to Dementors. After all, happy thoughts and an endorphin rush were the accepted cure. At least, this is what Severus believed the chocolate was meant to induce.
The endorphin rush reminded Severus of Rab. He wished he could visit with his former Dom. However, he doubted that would be allowed. Azkaban was made to punish wizards and witches. It was not a place of comfort. Besides, he really did not wish to experience Dementors anytime in the near future.
Severus waited until after Remus had shagged him in the bath before bringing up the subject of Dominance and submission.
“There is one thing I am going to miss.” Severus commented while toweling Remus dry.
“What is that?” Remus tried to towel Severus dry and gave up. Instead, he sucked on the other man’s throat.
“Keep doing that and I will not be able to speak.”
“Sorry, you taste so good.”
“Ree, please don’t.”
“All right. What will you miss? Is it something I can bring from home?”
“It is not exactly physical. Remus, remember when I tried to explain about D/s to you?”
“Severus, we were seventeen and all I can recall is how hot and bothered I got at the idea of being tied up.”
“I was not proficient at fulfilling that wish.”
“I do understand how you are not comfortable with bondage and I accept this. What are you trying to lead up to?” Remus led the way to the big bed. He sat on the edge and pulled Severus down next to him.
Severus moved off the bed to sit at Remus’ feet. He leaned against trim, muscular legs and rubbed his cheek against Remus’ calf muscles. The fine hairs caught at the stubble on Severus’ cheek.
“Ah, Sev. Please come up here.” Remus lightly tugged at his hair, making him purr.
They moved onto the middle of the bed and curled up together. Severus had his head on Remus’ chest.
“I like having someone be Dominate to me from time to time.”
“I remember. I also remember the book you had me read. This is a big step and a very serious decision. As I recall, there is negotiating and a contract to be agreed on. I am not certain I can give you what you want all of the time. It’s only around the full moon when I feel assertive.”
“Can you at least be a bit rough from time to time, or let me sit at your feet?” Severus toyed with a curl of hair near one taught nipple.
Remus held his hand, stopping him from being distracting. “That is easy enough to do. Would you like to be hand fed occasionally?”
“Hmm, yes.”
“This does not sound like Dominance and submission as described in that book.”
“I’m negotiating a very mild form of it. I want you to be comfortable. Eventually, I would like it if you marked me.”
“Severus, we have discussed that before. I will not risk infecting you.”
“You could pick out a tattoo for me or purchase a piercing. It would mark me as yours.”
He felt Remus shake with silent laughter. “If I decided to put a lion on your arse with the words ‘property of R.J. Lupin’, you would accept it?”
“Remus!” Severus sat up and swatted him. “You are not taking this seriously.”
“Yes I am. Let’s see if I remember right. As your Dom, it would be within my right to select how you are marked within reason. You as the sub have the final say. However, will a safe word actually be needed in deciding on a tattoo?”
“It will if you select something girlish, or a cat.”
“Ah, but I have already selected a cat. You sir, are the most feline person I have ever met. You purr, you hiss, and at the height of passion, you caterwaul like a cat in heat.”
“Point.” Severus curled up with his head on Remus’ leg. “May I please suck you off, Sir?”
Remus tugged on Severus’ hair. “Yes you may.”
Alternate Lifestyles: Poly Relationships
Her post inspired irana to write a post on consent.
I'd like to add a few thoughts on Polyamory.
My name is sg. I play in an organization that expects its members to behave in a chivalrous manner and show respect to all who attend their events no matter their orientation. As a result of this, I have met folks who practice Polyamory.
Let’s break this down into the two base words: Poly and Amore. Poly is from Greek and means many. Amore is from Latin and means love.
Thus, we have a word that literally means “many loves.” While that looks a bit odd, or unique. It is possible to have a polyamorous relationship. Said relationship does not have to be sexual. It does need to be consensual.
You may ask “What do you mean?”
Just like with other alternative lifestyles, a polyamorous one requires sane, mature adults who all are in agreement on the terms of their family unit/relationship. Everyone must consent for there to be a relationship. In Polyamory, you will see folks who are not only open, they communicate with each other. There is respect for all members in the relationship. Each member trusts the others, they value their partners and they have a long term relationship with their trio, quad or other grouping.
The main points:
1) consensual
2) communication
3) respect
4) trust
5) value
It is Not a way for one person to manipulate or force another into something they are not comfortable with. If this element appears in your fic, you are probably not writing about Polyamory. Please ask around, and get opinions before you tag or warn for this.
Random Meme Time
Instructions:
Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions
Resistance is Futile
1. When you first read the HP books, what drew you in most? Sev? One of the other characters? Or a particular plotline?
My kids got me interested in the books. As a parent, I wanted to know what they were reading that was creating so much controversy in the school districts around the U.S. I remember laughing my ass off at Hermione’s skewed priorities after the trio’s encounter with Fluffy. Hagrid was a dear soul, and the complexity of the world JKR created was very interesting. Not many authors add so much detail when they are world building and handle these details so that they do not take over the story.
Severus attracked my attention in the second book. His reaction to Ginny’s being in peril led me to wonder if maybe he was not as hard hearted and hateful as he let on. Snape gripped the back of a chair very hard and said, "How can you be sure?" (ch 16 CoS)
2. Do you ever listen to music while you write, and if so, do you have particular things that you listen to?
I try not to listen to music with lyrics when I write. The words tend to distract me. I’m a very visual person, so catchy lyrics will send me off on a tangent or exploring what those words mean. I lean more to listening to Bach or Mozart some days and other days, Dave Koz or other smooth jazz artists.
3. Outside of Harry Potter and SCA, what other fannish things/fandoms do you like?
Star Trek(original), Star Wars (middle triology), M*A*S*H, Merlin, Dr. Who and Tarzan (the books not the movies).
4. What is it that draws you to Severus Snape as a character.
His complexity. This character was never black or white. He was written in shades of grey. I liked how he was a bully and wanted recognition and lurked about the castle scaring the bejeezus out of students. While he is not a ‘nice person’, we all have met someone like him at one time or another in our lives and if we took the time, we also learned valuable lessons from them.
5. Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter--which is the best, and why?
Halloween, hands down. It’s the Celtic New Year, a time to remember your family and friends and was once the final harvest festival of the season. It marks the beginning of winter.
Also, I have a thing for pumpkins, black cats, cauldrons and such. Or as the husband has said "sg wants to live in Halloweentown"
Can we say "doh"? Sure, sure we can. LMFAO!
Galveston, Texas
November 12, 2009 LA MARQUE — The owner of one of the world’s fastest production automobiles accidentally drove his fine-tuned, French-built car into a saltwater lagoon Wednesday.
The man, who police said was from Lufkin, was uninjured after escaping the partially submerged Bugatti Veyron as it came to rest in about 2 feet of saltwater.
The two-seater, with 16 cylinders and four turbo chargers, can reach speeds of more than 250 mph. New models sell for about $2 million.
The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston.
About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay.
The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.
The Veyron’s powerful engine gurgled like an outboard motor for about 15 minutes before it died.
Police and firefighters blocked the frontage road until MCH Towing employee Gilbert Harrison carefully wenched the car away from riprap and onto the soft, muddy bank.
It’s the rarest car in the world, not something you can just replace, the man said.
An Associated Press story in October mentioned a 2006 model Veyron for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., with an asking price of $1.25 million.
One of the prospective buyers was from Texas.
That Bugatti Veyron was one of only 200 made and one of only about 15 in the United States, the AP reported.
NaNoWriMo
No writing today on the Nano story. I was up early for me and off running around doing sales calls. This meant I had no clue what was happening in Texas until the news came on at 5. To say the least, I was shocked and am wondering how flisters in that area and with relatives in the military are doing.
Tomorrow marks the one week anniversary and I will be spending a bit of time with the parish Priest at the pet cemetery. Hopefully this will help me stop being so easily upset.
so, how is everyone else doing?
